THE SUMMIT OF THE ANDES CHOPICALLQUI MOUNTAIN 6354M
The Guardian of Huandoy
Chopicallqui mountain with an altitude of 6,354 masl is the fifth highest mountain in the Cordillera Blanca, Peru. In recent years, this mountain has become very popular for reaching its summit via a route that offers stunning views of the entire Andean valley.
Before ascending this mountain, good acclimatization is recommended—at least climbing a 5,000m peak to ensure proper adaptation before the expedition.
Ascent Timeline
HUARAZ (3100M) – CHOPICALLQUI CURVE – MORAINE CAMP (4800M)
Departure at 6:00 am from Huaraz to the Chopicallqui curve. Start the ascent to the Moraine camp at 4800 masl. The ascent takes about 6 to 7 hours.
MORAINE CAMP (4800M) – HIGH CAMP (5480M)
Breakfast at 9:00 am. Start the ascent through the moraine (1h) and then the glacier (2-3h) to reach the High Camp at 5480 masl.
HIGH CAMP (5480M) – CHOPICALLQUI SUMMIT (6354M)
Summit push starts at 2:00 am via the normal route. Reach the 6354m peak and enjoy spectacular views of the Cordillera Blanca. Return to High Camp to recover and continue down to Moraine Camp.
MORAINE CAMP (4800M) – CURVE – HUARAZ (3100M)
Final descent to the curve where our private transport waits to take us back to Huaraz hotel.
